Women Learn Self-Defense, Get Workout

Many women turn to martial arts to keep from becoming crime victims, but they’re also getting a good workout out of it.

Women raved about the strength and self-confidence they said they gained learning martial arts.

“I learned there's a lot of ways that I can protect myself that I never thought about,” student Kellyn Starkey said.

Chamberlain Studios of Self Defense’s Nick Chamberlain said the people in his class can practice what they know and still learn more for most of their lives.

“In the martial arts, you're learning new skills on a daily basis you can count for 20, 30 years, and still be getting better at what you're doing,” he said.

Starkey said she’s just happy to learn how to defend herself and get a good workout.

“It's great exercise and a fun way to do it,” she said.
