DALLAS -- Hundreds of Dallas high school students soon will have video cameras watching over them if Dallas Independent School District officials follow through with their plan.

DISD leaders want to install surveillance cameras in 22 high schools within the district. The cameras would be placed in the hallways and some common areas of the schools.

Principals said the cameras would provide evidence during investigations of fights and other punishable incidents.

Reaction to the cameras from parents are mixed.

Parent Rosalyn Ware said she was in favor of the cameras because it would allow officials to monitor the staff as well as the students.

Others parents expressed oppostion to the proposition.

"I think it's a bad thing, because, why would you have cameras in there with a kid? You know what I'm saying? Seeing every move that they make where it's like they in prison. They not in prison," said Theresa Williams.

The Dallas school board plans to consider adding those cameras into middle schools at a meeting on Wednesday.
