DALLAS -- Words such as "eclectic" and "extraordinary" could describe art displays at the Goss Gallery in Dallas. The same words also could describe gallery owner Kenny Goss.Despite the international status of his gallery, Goss got an inauspicious introduction into the art world."I remember my first connection with art is A&P (grocery store)," he said. "If you bought a certain amount of groceries, you got these prints. And my mother, I still remember making this big deal about picking these prints out."
The art and reproductions of the prints might not have been gallery quality, but Goss found a lifelong connection to the work behind the art."After college, and just kind of traveling and stuff, everywhere I went, I became addicted to (art)," Goss said. "I always went to the galleries and the museums."The addiction led him to return to his hometown and open a gallery that brings different, sometime daring, works to the art-loving public."I always felt like Dallas needed an international gallery," Goss said. "Something that was like the galleries of New York or London."The gallery features some of the best-known artists from around the world. Goss' attention, however, ranges beyond the art. In addition to building the gallery, he and partner, renown pop singer George Michael, also are building a life in Dallas."The best thing about Dallas is there's this refreshing lack of cynicism. People really believe you can do it," Goss said.Goss and the success of his art gallery are proof that you can go home again.
