DALLAS -- The program at Cooper Fitness Center is tailored to teach women with arthritis, cancer, fibromyalgia and osteoporosis how to exercise based on their individual needs.

It's called Female Focus and it is about functional movement and trunk stability to prepare women for daily life.
"There should've never been any generic program, period, in fitness because we are all different and unique," said Colette Cole, a senior fitness trainer. "You can hear all day about what the benefits are, but you actually have to know what to do to get those benefits."Patti Kiernan said she is fighting back against her osteoporosis with exercise."They could see in the X-ray how I've improved my bone density because of this class," she said. "Say you're walking down the sidewalk and hit a crack, people that don't go through training like this might break their wrist or something. But it teaches you balance, balance, balance."Kiernan said she wants healthy bones, so she works out twice a week during the month-long program and when it ends, she joins again."You start out at your level, your pace. Before you know it, you're addicted," she said.Female Focus is not just for Cooper Fitness Center members. Anyone who can pay the $580 fee can enroll. A health savings account will cover it, however, most flexible spending accounts do not, NBC 5 reported.
