Researchers: Cutting Dosage May Not Lessen Effectiveness

Antidepressants, Anxiety, Blood Pressure Medicines Prominent On Stanford List

A new study from Stanford University indicates that almost a dozen prescription drugs' dosages can be cut in half, and still remain as effective.

The drugs on the list are: Klonopin, Pravachol, Cardura, Serzone, Celexa, Viagra, Lipitor, Zoloft, Paxil, Zyprexa and Zestril.

Taking half the currently prescirbed dosage could save people between $25 and $35 per prescription. Most pharmacies already sell devices to split pills. But, critics who oppose the practice fear not all patients are able to accurately cut tablets.

Researchers at Stanford advise people to contact their doctors doctor before cutting back on any prescribed medication.
