U.S. Advances to Finals in Women's Water Polo

The U.S. outlasted Australia in extra time on Tuesday, winning 11-9 to advance to the women’s water polo final at the London Olympics. American Maggie Steffens scored four goals in a match between the two favorites. Australia's Southern Ash converted a penalty with one second left on the clock in regulation to tie the match 9-9 and force extra time. Steffens then put the U.S. ahead in the first of two three-minute extra-time periods with a skip shot, and Kami Craig followed up with another goal to give the Americans the 11-9 win and another shot at their first gold medal in the event.
