New Device Tightens Sagging Skin

A trip to a spa can give people a relaxing experience. Now, the time spent at a spa also can produce a younger, firmer appearance.

The new triactive laser treatment produces an instant facelift. The laser is the first similar treatment approved by the Food and Drug Administration for over-the-counter use. Typically, the treatment is found at health spas rather than a doctor's office.

Debi Sugarman endured cellulite in her thighs for years. The triactive treatment achieved results that other treatments failed to deliver, she said.

"When I look in the mirror, I go, 'Ooh, it looks so smooth,' " Sugarman said.

The laser delivers treatment at about 62 degrees. It requires at least five applications before results can be seen, and users must return for maintenance treatments every four to six weeks.

"It's a treatment that does three different things," spa owner Jeff Robinson said. "It does therapeutic massage, it incorporates laser and it incorporates a cooling agent. At first, it's a little shocking because it's so cool, but it feels really good."

Sallie Register said the facial treatment delivered a positive effect for a special occasion.

"It's very noninvasive, it's quick and it's affordable, and I thought, 'what they heck.' It was worth a try," she said. The cost of triactive laser treatments ranges from $75 to $100 per session. The treatment is not recommended for pregnant women or people with asthma or heart conditions.
