Hypnosis Offers Snoring Solution

POSTED: 10:52 am CDT May 1, 2006

A novel approach is helping partners of snorers to sleep soundly without pills or procedures.

In their bid to rest easy, some frustrated North Texans are turning to hypnosis to drown out the snoring of their partners.

Hypnosis uses the power of suggestion to convince the mind that that the snoring is background noise -- like a ticking clock or passing car.

"When you relax the body, relax the mind, you can filter out the sound," hypnotherapist Deryl Harrison said.

One session for Cynthia Giromini did the trick, she said.

And the popularity of the treatment has spawned an at-home CD version that is now a bedside accessory for Bobbie Green.

She said listening to the disc right before sleeping makes her husband's snoring a non-issue.

"One moment, it was completely irritating, and you just wanted to push him out of bed," she said. "And now it's nice and relaxing, and you just go off to sleep."

"Everybody we've worked with so far has had success," Giromini said.

Treatments can cost between $50 and $100 and CDs sell for just under $50.

However, people who snore should see a doctor to make sure a medical condition is not causing their snoring.
