The family of a woman who died in a crash with a truck is suing the truck driver and the companies that hired him and own the truck.

Amani Carter is suing the driver Jeremy Davidson, 20, and companies, accusing them of negligence in the death of his wife, a 33-year-old teacher, four months ago. The lawsuit claims that the truck had mechanical problems that made it unsafe and that Davidson should not have been operating it.

“He [Davidson] was ill-prepared, and not properly trained,” the Carters’ attorney Jeff Rasanksy said. “The truck was not adequately prepared to be on the road.”

Police said the truck driver ran a red light and crashed into Cynthia Carter’s car four months ago. They said she was trapped in her car when it caught fire. The truck driver, Jeremy Davidson, 20, was charged with manslaughter.

"My wife's gone, and for what reason, you know?” he said. “Because you choose to speed. You choose to try to catch the light."

Amani Carter said he’s still adjusting to life without his wife. The Carters had just moved to McKinney with their three children to be closer to church.

“It's not the same, the kids without their mother, you know?” he said.

Davidson and the owners of the trucking company could not be reached for comment.
