Parking Rules Take Dallas Drivers By Surprise

Some drivers said they were unaware of new parking rules in a Dallas neighborhood.

People who parked along two blocks in the lower Greenville area returned to find a ticket on their cars. The streets are now reserved for resident parking from Wednesday nights through early Sunday mornings. New resident-only parking signs went up last week along the two blocks.

"I had no clue about it," Misti Rike said. "So it's very unfair -- just no clue why I got a ticket."

Another driver who was ticketed said he also had not heard of the new parking rules.

"I'm a resident here," he said. "I haven't heard anything about this. (I) never had any problems parking here and don't really understand why I'm getting a ticket, so it would be nice to get some answers about this."

Residents asked for the restrictions to keep bar crowds off their streets. They said people would park along the residential streets and walk to the bar and restaurant district, especially on the weekends.

Avi Adelman of the Belmont Neighborhood Association said they were disruptive to the neighborhood.

"They'll be noisy, they'll be loud, they'll be dirty and leave their trash, and they'll start a fight out in the parking lot and wake people up," Adelman said.

On Saturday morning, the front yard of one house was littered with trash.

Residents said they hope the new restrictions will help alleviate what has been a constant problem.

"And all we've done is put in the parking restrictions that say you can't park here anymore, go find another place to party," Adelman said.

In the future, people who park on the streets without a resident permit could have their car towed.
