DALLAS -- One bride's dream to have her mother at her side on her wedding day was recently made possible by the caring staff at a Dallas hospital.

Fun-loving Joyce Harden had the same dream many mothers have shared -- to attend her daughter's wedding. Sadly, a brain aneurysm landed her in intensive care just a few weeks before her daughter Cheryl's big day.
Three weeks ago, a trip to a doctor's office for a nagging cough ended with Harden suddenly in intensive care at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas."My aunt called me and told me she was in the hospital and then when I got there, Dad told me she had two aneurysms," said Cheryl.Just like that, Cheryl's joy about her upcoming wedding to Timothy Raifsnyder turned to sorrow over her mother's failing health. With the possibility of attending her daughter's wedding diminishing, Cheryl's sister suggested bringing the wedding to her mother."She said, 'Why don't ya'll get married in Mom's room?'" said Cheryl. "I didn't think they would let us do it. All my life I've always been taught, you can't know until you ask -- so I asked."Within just a few hours, the hospital and ICU nurses had gathered decorations, a cake and even a wedding gift so that the betrothed couple could exchange vows at Harden's bedside with the hospital chaplain officiating."I felt very honored ... I felt God had called me to be on duty that day, that time, that moment to provide this service," said Gina Biddle, hospital chaplain. With their simple act of kindness, the staff turned one of life's most challenging times into a memory that the Harden family can cherish forever.Harden remains in the ICU, and the family said she is to undergo surgery in the next few days.
