Man Wins Fifth Paczkis-Eating Contest

ANSONIA, Conn. -- Dieters, cover your ears. A bakery in Ansonia, Conn., is overloading taste-buds with their annual pastry-eating contest.At Edy's Bake Shop Tuesday, contestants were chowing down on paczkis in an annual all-you-can-eat gorge-fest.The puffy, sugary treats are a traditional Polish pastry prepared every year in advance of Lent. The confections are made with lard, sugar and fruit and are kind of like a doughnut on steroids.
"Gentleman" Joe Menchetti stuffed down 13 paczkis in five minutes to emerge as the big winner in the 10th Annual Paczkis Eating Contest.The win is Menchetti's fifth, making him a paczki-eating pro.
