Police are piecing information together to find out how and why a woman was killed in her home Friday morning.

Police said they arrived at a house in the 700 block of Weaver Street at about 3 a.m. and found a woman who had suffered a gunshot wound.

Judith Bell, 34, a girls basketball coach and a special education teacher at W.S. Perementer Middle School, was taken by helicopter to Methodist Medical Center, where she died a short time later, according to police.

Police said the woman’s roommate called 911, saying she heard a gunshot and that someone else was in their home.

Three adults and three children live at the house and police took the kids into custody while interviewing the other two adults. Police said they searched outside the house and are waiting on a search warrant to go inside.

Police said they don’t think this was a home invasion because there was no sign of forced entry.
