DALLAS -- Dallas police are looking for the thieves who stole an assault rifle and ammunition from an unmarked police truck Tuesday night at the Northpark Shopping Center.Police said the undercover officer was parked in the garage at Northpark Mall and had all the equipment hidden from outside view. The thieves broke into the vehicle and stole an assault rifle, bullets, two police jackets and two radios.
Dallas police Sr. Cpl. Janice Crowther said she hopes someone heard or saw the incident and comes forward with information."They pried the doorknob off the truck and then got inside," she said. "That's something that's going to take some time and it's going to make some noise."Dallas Police Department reports show another car break-in happened a few hours later, so detectives said they are not sure if the officer was targeted.Police said they want to remind people that if anyone knowingly buys the stolen equipment, they will also face serious charges. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them."We don't want their weapons to be used illegally or against anybody or any manner that is illegal," Crowther said.
