FORT WORTH, Texas -- The body of Joseph Barnett, 16, missing since he went canoeing in February, was recovered Friday at Eagle Mountain Lake near Pelican Bay.Barnett was out on the lake in a canoe with a girl and high winds might have caused the canoe to flip on Feb. 25.The girl made it back to shore safely, but the boy did not resurface, police said.
"She came to the house banging on the door, saying the canoe flipped," a friend of Barnett's family, Debra Willis said after the incident. "She tried to save him and he told her to go on, 'Save yourself, I can't go on.'"An intensive 18-day search was led by Tarrant Regional Water District lake patrol officers, who also were assisted by Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens. The body has been transported to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy.
