Carpenters Union Files Suit Against D.R. Horton

POSTED: 7:39 pm CDT March 20, 2008
UPDATED: 8:01 pm CDT March 20, 2008

Fort Worth-based homebuilder D.R. Horton was accused of hiring undocumented workers in a class-action lawsuit announced Thursday at a news conference in New Jersey.

The accusations against the home building giant are being leveled by the New Jersey Regional Council of Carpenters, not by a law enforcement entity.

The class-action lawsuit accuses D.R. Horton of cheating workers out of wages and benefits in New Jersey, cheating the New Jersey government out of tax revenue, and hiring undocumented workers.

D.R. Horton builds tens of thousands of homes each year nationwide.

A spokesperson for D.R. Horton declined to comment on a pending lawsuit. The company recently posted a quarterly loss in the hundreds of millions of dollars, NBC 5 reported.
