Police said two dogs attacked a 3-year-old child and her aunt in southeast Fort Worth on Wednesday night.

Two pit bulls attacked the girl as she was getting ready to take a bath in a home at the Redwood Estates Mobile Home Park in the 5100 block of DeSoto Court, police said.

She was airlifted from the scene to Cook Children's Hospital. At last report, she was in very critical condition.

Police said the dogs then attacked the child's aunt as she tried to pull the dogs off her niece.

"The gal grabbed the dogs and threw them out the door," a neighbor said. "The dogs kept trying to get back up on the porch."

The neighbor said the 3-year-old was in "very bad" condition.

"They airlifted her. I don't know if she's going to make it," he said.

"I think it's terrible," the neighbor said. "We just pray that little girl makes it, because, I mean, they shouldn't have even had her in the house."

Animal control officers who backed up by heavily armed police officers captured the pit bulls.

The aunt's condition was not known, but police told NBC 5 her injuries were not life-threatening.
