ADDISON, Texas -- Friends of a Sanger woman who was killed in a car crash threw a benefit rock concert in her honor on Saturday.Virginia Kaye Taylor was killed in a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 35E near Lake Lewisville on July 1."It was a tragic accident, and, you know, you don't want that to happen to anybody, let alone the people you know closely," Taylor's boyfriend, Jaysen Stricklin, said.
Stricklin organized Rockfest 2008 in an effort to help her family raise enough money for funeral expenses."Our goal right now is, I'd like to shoot for at least $10,000, so we can cover the funeral and headstone costs," he said. The event was held at the Rockhouse Grille in Addison, where Stricklin met Taylor."She used to go by Kaye Taylor," he said. "She didn't like Virginia."Rockhouse Grille owner Zach Blair said Taylor and Stricklin were both "really dear friends.""We found out the news about this and really wanted to put something together that would help them out," he said."We've had like 14 bands that are coming in to play, (and) countless businesses have come together to donate some stuff," Blair said.Stricklin said the outpouring of support has been overwhelming."She would just be amazed right now. She'd probably kill me for putting that picture of her with her tattoo up," he said. But the photograph served as a reminder to everyone of Taylor, who will be sorely missed."She was probably one of the sweetest people I've ever known," Blair said. The benefit included a concert, raffle and silent auction.
