McKINNEY, Texas -- Three months ago, an explosion on Fenet Street in McKinney left three people critically injured. On Thursday, prosecutors began reviewing the case for possible criminal charges.McKinney police launched a criminal probe into the explosion that rocked a neighborhood and their findings indicate "recklessness" by contractors, detectives said.
Residents of the East McKinney neighborhood where the explosion happened said they thought it was just a tragic accident. But investigators said basic industry procedures for installing gas lines were not following by three contractors working that day in May.Leigh Calmes' son attends Holy Family School, right across the street from the breached gas main."There were lives at stake," she said. "There are people who are still in the hospital. At this point something should be done."Police would not release specific findings of their investigation, but said they are turning the case over to prosecutors.Atmos Energy, where the contractors worked, would not comment Thursday.
