The FBI has identified two of the men suspected of being the so-called "takeover bandits" as Guadalupe Mercado Fajardo, 31, of McKinney and Douglas Mark Ybarra, 31, of Houston. Both have criminal histories.

The incident began at about 10:15 a.m. when the men, wearing ski masks, robbed the American First National Bank located next to the Richardson police headquarters in the 400 block of N. Greenville in Richardson, Sgt. Keith Cannon said.

The men, believed to be Hispanic, were armed with automatic weapons and one person at the bank suffered minor injuries, Cannon said.

The men sped off in a Honda and then carjacked a red Chevrolet Suburban before crashing it and stealing a white pickup truck.

Plano police were helping Richardson officers pursue the men when witnesses said shots were fired just before a multivehicle accident involving the pickup truck and a green four-door sedan at Jupiter Road at Plano Parkway in Plano, NBC 5 reported.

A Plano officer was injured by flying glass when the back window of his unmarked cruiser was shot out, NBC 5 reported. He is expected to be OK.

The men then reportedly attempted to steal a car with a woman an child inside, but fled on foot instead and then carjacked a gold 1989 Mazda 626, which was found hours later in a residential neighborhood in the 300 block of Valentine in Wylie.

Police say they believe the men are now in the fourth vehicle they have carjacked, a beige 1994 Honda Accord with Texas license plates P76-NZG.

NBC 5 reports police searched for evidence in a field near Plano Parkway and Los Rios and set up a command post in that area.

There have been no reports of anyone seriously injured.
