A man helped U.S. Coast Guard search crews recover the body of a fisherman missing after the boat he was working on capsized and sank in the Galveston Causeway Thursday morning.

Judy Lynn, Galveston Causeway Near Gulf Freeway

The victim, identified only as a 50-year-old man, was spotted by another boater at the foot of the Galveston Causeway bridge. Officials said the man was not wearing a life jacket.

The Coast Guard said they received calls from several boaters at 6:05 a.m. reporting the 44-foot shrimp boat, known as Judy Lynn, had capsized in the Galveston Causeway near the Gulf Freeway.

Officials said a rescue boat and helicopter from Ellington Field were called to search for crewmembers shortly after receiving the report.

One crewman was rescued by another fishing boat. His condition was not released.

Officials said the waterway remains open while investigators from the Coast Guard investigate the cause of the accident.
