Researchers at the University of Pisa in Italy suggest that lovers enjoy the rush of new love while it lasts because the feeling subsides in a relatively brief time. The researchers said that the feeling of lust typically disappears after about two years, according to BBC News. After the initial two-year period, the love hormone gives way to what the researchers called the cuddle hormone -- oxytocin.
Oxytocin helps people stay together in lasting, strong relationships, according to a netscape.com report.
