'S-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands -- Third-seeded Croat Mario Ancic and 2003 Wimbledon runner-up Mark Philippoussis were among Thursday's second-round winners at the grass-court Ordina Open -- a final Wimbledon tune- up.Ancic, a semifinalist at the All England Club last year, held off fellow big- server Wayne Arthurs of Australia 6-4, 7-6 (7-1), while the unseeded Philippoussis got past Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-2) at Autotron Rosmalen. Ancic's quarterfinal opponent on Friday will be veteran Swede Jonas Bjorkman, while the two-time Grand Slam runner-up Philippoussis of Australia will meet ninth-seeded Italian Davide Sanguinetti.
Sanguinetti advanced by taking out two-time Ordina Open titlist Sjeng Schalken 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, while Bjorkman moved on with a 6-4, 6-2 decision against Frenchman Julien Benneteau. The Dutch crowd favorite Schalken captured this event back-to-back in 2002 and 2003. Friday's other quarters will pit defending Ordina champion Michael Llodra against German Lars Burgsmuller and German Philipp Kohlschreiber versus Czech Jan Hernych. The French Llodra beat Argentine Guillermo Coria in last year's finale here.
