Couple Survives Tornado Touchdown

A quick-thinking Collin County couple is alive after a tornado tore through their home Thursday night.

Harold and Mary Donaho were inside their home on FM 2862 between Anna and Westminster when the twister struck.

"This always happens to somebody else, you know. That's what everybody thinks," Harold Donaho said.

Before impact, the Donaho took what little shelter they had by laying face down on their living room floor between a couch and coffee table.

In a moment, Donaho said, the twister ripped the roof from the home.

"About two, three minutes, it's gone," he said.

When the storm passed, the pair left the mangled structure and waited eight hours for daylight to arrive.

"We sat outside, talked about it, looked," he said.

Across the road, Dennis Lea's house was destroyed.

He had left the residence to warn neighbors about possible tornadoes and returned to find his house gone.

"I'm just lucky I wasn't in it," he said.
